“The Woman Next Door”

Type: 16mm color negative;

Camera: Arriflex

Genre: Visual Poem

For this film, I wanted to capture the feeling of loneliness. Loneliness, like any other emotion, is hard to capture purely in film, so I hesitated to choose it as my main theme. To help it come across more, I used the poem “The Sound of One Fork” by Minnie Pratt, which explores the profound solitude and existential contemplation through the simple imagery of the sound of a single fork. In the film, we cut between the actress reading the poem, and her watching her neighbor eating alone through the window.
